I was injured in an accident in 1999. After a back surgery the sciatica nerve on my left side of the spine and all the way to my foot became infected, Also, the nerved “bundled” where ir came out at the L4/L5 vertabras. The infection was treated and after a year only a portion of the nerve waa working and that with great pain, I wound up with atrophy from the left knee to the top of my left foot, and chronic pain from my spine all the way to the top of my left foot, and from my spine into the right hip.
I could not afford the nearly $4000 worth of medications perscribed because I had no insurance and only workmen’s compensation and Medicare. Workmen’s Compensation starved me into a settlement supposed to be good for 10 years worth of treatments and drugs, but the money only lasted for 4 years. That’s when i found out about the medical assistance program that I could have been on all the time and saved m life savings and the WC settlement!
I have lived on Disablility Social Security for 10 years now, lost my wife to divorce because of the change in economic stability, and have lost almost all my teeth to one pain drug, I had 26 of 32 teeth in perfect shape, but today I have only pieces of eight teeth and the roots of 16 teeth in my gums that just broke off as a side effect of one of my pain medications. There was no pain or feeling of any kind due to the tooth enamel of each tooth being eaten away at the gum line, the pulp attacked and the nerve killedIn all 26 teeth. The eight that are left are almost gone now and soon I will have no teeth to eat with. The dental work will cost in the area of $8000 but I haven’t the money or insurance to pay for it.
My 27 year old daughter has already had to have all 32 of her teeth removed because she was on the same medication up until a few month ago. Thank goodness she had Medicaid! She had the roots removed and faults teeth made.
The suspected drug is fentynol found in the Duragesic Patches for pain. I have been on 100 mcg applied every 48 hours, 800 mg of Neurontin x 4 per day, 15 mg of Morphine every 4 hrs. x 6 a day, 400 mg Celebrex 1 time a day, 20 mg of fentenol once a day, 25 mg Paxil CR once a day, and OTC Benydril 25 mg x 2 per day. I am giving you all my perscriptions so you will see that the only drug that is not taken by numbers of people is the fentynol.
Both my daughter and I had near perfect teeth when this started. I suppose I will have to grind my food up in a processor of some sort to be able to eat once the rest of my teeth are gone as I do not have the $8000 tthe dentist here in Franklin, NC estimate the surgical removal of all the roots will take. My first diagnosis with Gout was as a pre-teen. I was hospitalized and after being discharged I was taken to my grandmothers house where the family had gathered to welcome me home. My grandmother after having been told I had the Gout, said there wasn’t anything to worry about.
She had me eat cherries daily, from that day on uric acid was no longer a problem. I’m 71 years of age and periodically my primary orders fasting blood work, yes you guessed it no uric acid problems. I’m not sure you will print this, but family and many friends have no problems with gout, in fact my primary suggests cherries to the patients to eliminate uric acid.
