Cornerstone Therapeutics, a North Carolina Drug Manufacturer announced that it will stop selling unapproved drugs by the end of this year.

According to a recent press release, “the Company has decided to cease manufacturing and distribution of its marketed unapproved products by the end of 2010.”

Unapproved drugs have never been tested for proper dosage, regimen and possible drug-drug interaction with other medications. They have been associated with hundreds of deaths and patients who use these products are putting their safety at risk.

Cornerstone Therapeutics should be commended for their efforts being taken to protect patients from potentially harmful, unproven products. We at 60 Plus urge other manufacturers to follow their lead and hope to see the Food and Drug Administration take immediate action to remove unapproved drugs from the marketplace when approved versions are available.
